Pulp announce first album in 24 years 'More' and premiere lead single 'Spike Island'

Sheffield music legends Pulp will release their first studio album in 24 years, ‘More’, on Friday 6th June 2025 via Rough Trade Records.

Pulp’s first long-player since 2001’s critically-lauded ‘We Love Life’ boasts 11 all-new songs, and it was recorded and mixed at Orbb Studio in Walthamstow with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines D.C., Pet Shop Boys) at the helm.

As a tantalising aperitif for ‘More’, Pulp have premiered the lead single ‘Spike Island’, which is the second song the band have written about The Stone Roses’ infamous 1990 concert at Spike Island in Widnes, Cheshire following 1995’s ‘Sorted for E’s & Wizz’.

Pulp leader Jarvis Cocker, who didn’t actually go to the Stone Roses gig 35 years ago, wrote ‘Spike Island’ alongside attendee Jason Buckle (Relaxed Muscle). A DJ there shouted, “Spike Island, come alive!” all day, getting on everybody’s nerves – and it’s this that forms the basis of the song.

Commenting on Pulp’s first record in almost a quarter-of-a-century, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker said: “When we started touring again in 2023, we practiced a new song called “Hymn of the North” during soundchecks & eventually played it at the end of our second night at Sheffield Arena. This seemed to open the floodgates: we came up with the rest of the songs on this album during the first half of 2024.

“A couple are revivals of ideas from last century. The music for one song was written by Richard Hawley. The music for another was written by Jason Buckle. The Eno family sing backing vocals on a song. There are string arrangements written by Richard Jones & played by the Elysian Collective.

“The album was recorded over 3 weeks by James Ford in Walthamstow, London, starting on November 18th, 2024. This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record. It was obviously ready to happen.

“These are the facts.

“We hope you enjoy the music. It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England, aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process.

“This album is dedicated to Steve Mackey.

“This is the best that we can do.

“Thanks for listening.”

Pulp’s ‘More’ is available to pre-order now from Rought Trade’s official shop in a variety of formats, including a double LP cut at 45 rpm, and four single-disc colour vinyl pressings that have been both handpicked and named by Jarvis Cocker personally.

Alongside the black LP there will also be a “Theresa” green LP available across all retail, a “Blue Sky Thinking” Marble LP, exclusive to independent record stores, a “South Yorkshire Sunset” Marble LP available only from shops in Sheffield and “Isha Kriya”, an ink spot design, available exclusively from Pulp and Rough Trade Records’ online shops.
