Finally the day has arrived... Outer Banks season five has dropped on Netflix. After following the adventures of the group of teens over the past four seasons, fans finally get to see how the story concludes in the final season.

In season four fans were left devastated at the death of JJ in Morocco, at the hand of his biological father Chandler Groff, leaving the group without one of their main crew members.

Speaking about JJ's death, Josh Pate, the show's co-creator told Tudum: "It was a really hard decision because he’s such a great piece of the ensemble. It sets the stage for an epic fifth and final season."

Outer Banks season four

He continued: "We’re planning a story of redemption, and a season that embodies the friendship that JJ had come to represent. JJ's death was a hard but necessary piece of the architecture for the story, and we plan on honouring that as much as we can because we love the character as much as the fans do. And Rudy’s a great friend of ours."

What happens in season five of Outer Banks?

The synopsis reads: 'Season 5 finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following the tragic loss of JJ in Morocco. Stranded far from home and mourning the heart of their crew, they’ve lost the Blue Crown and continue to face a gauntlet of familiar threats. With Chandler Groff still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs closing in, and the Kooks ensuring the Pogues have no home to return to, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo must rely on their scrappy instincts—and an uneasy alliance with Rafe—to keep from falling apart for good.

'Their mission is now a desperate race to reclaim their future and finally win the freedom they’ve been chasing since the beginning. It’s the Pogues against the world as they seek to avenge their best friend and bring it on home…one final time.'
