Fans of The Other Bennet Sister - rejoice! The BBC have just confirmed that the Pride and Prejudice spin-off will be returning to our screens for a handful of new episodes set to air this Christmas, with many of our favourite faces set to reappear for the festive season.

The Other Bennet Sister stars Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet, the middle daughter of five who is often overlooked, and her story has really captured the hearts of viewers up and down the country - often being mentioned on social media since the first season's release in May 2025.

Of the upcoming episodes, Jane Tranter, Executive Producer and CEO of Bad Wolf, said: "We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet’s story, but the response to The Other Bennet Sister has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations.

"These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins.

"Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas."

Which book is The Other Bennet Sister based on?

It's based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Janice Hadlow, which is itself loosely based on the iconic Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. While the original book primarily follows the story of Lizzie with Mary very much a background character, this version sees what happens to Mary when the spotlight is on her just a little.

Who is in The Other Bennet Sister?

The main cast sees Mary Bennet played by Ella Bruccoleri - best known for her role on Call The Midwife, but also for small roles on Bridgerton, Ludwig and Paddington In Peru. We've then got Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones as Mrs Bennet with renowned stage and screen actor Richard E. Grant as Mr Bennet.

Mary's love interests come in the form of Dónal Finn as Thomas Hayward and Laurie Davidson as William Ryder - and heartwarming casting in the form of Lucy Briers as Mary's confidante, Mrs Hill, as Lucy portrayed Mary in the beloved 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice (you know, the one where Colin Firth comes out of the water).

There's also Sex Education's Tanya Reynolds perfectly giving Caroline Bingley a more three-dimensional characterisation, and Game of Thrones' Indira Varma playing Mrs Gardiner, Mary's aunt.

What's it about?

Having been little more than a side character in the original, Mary steps forward into centre stage in The Other Bennet Sister. She keeps her original traits of being very interested in books and reading, and is still quiet compared to her sisters, but we see her step out from the shadows and live a little - even falling in love.

The BBC say: 'Based on Janice Hadlow’s acclaimed novel, The Other Bennet Sister followed Mary Bennet, the oft-overlooked middle sister in Pride & Prejudice as she navigated the societal pressures of Regency England, where marriage is both aspiration and necessity.

'The final episode of the series saw Mary agreeing to wed Tom Hayward, but fans will be keen to know what challenges the future holds for the happy couple...'

When will the new episodes air?

We don't have an exact date for the upcoming three episodes, but we do know they'll be filming in Wales this summer and air at Christmas 2026. There will be three episodes, with each being 30 minutes long.
