Ludwig series two release date FINALLY confirmed
The innovative puzzle master returns!
Last updated 11 hours ago
Ludwig fans have been waiting VERY patiently to find out exactly when the second series of the crime comedy show would be returning. We found out earlier in the summer that David Mitchell's puzzle-setter-turned-accidental-detective would be back on our screens in August, but no specific date was given.
Now, we finally know exactly when in the month we can expect the first episode of season two to drop - and it's really not long.
When will series two of Ludwig be released?
The BBC have now confirmed that the first episode of Ludwig will air on BBC One on Thursday 20th August 2026 at 9pm. Excitingly, all six episodes will drop on BBC iPlayer at that time.
We've also got a synopsis for the first episode: 'No longer having to impersonate his twin brother and following his successful closure rate for the major investigation team, puzzle setter John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor returns under his new job title of crime scene consultant.
'After retrieving the files from storage, John is determined to find the incriminating information that led to Sinclair’s death and James’s disappearance. As the Cambridge Police Authority undergoes investigation in light of the Holly Pinder scandal, an unusual double confession at the theatre sees John take centre stage, where he must prove who didn’t commit the crime.
'The case takes a turn when John meets a key witness who appears to recognise him – and not because he’s Ludwig. Is there more to this witness than meets the eye?'
This comes after the overview for the second series as a whole was released, giving us a flavour of what we can expect: 'Now that he's an official employee of the station, John is forbidden from using any police resources to look for his brother or uncover exactly what he was investigating.
'Of course, John won't stop, and neither will Lucy, John's sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James - a puzzle needs solving and a husband and father needs bringing home. One masquerade may have ended, but a new one has just begun.'
