A summer release date has been revealed for the much-anticipated reboot of beloved TV series, Little House on the Prairie, which is based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Set in 1870s-90s Minnesota, the charming family drama is being remade for Netflix, so a new generation can enjoy the stories which were based on Laura's own experiences as a child.

Laura, Mary, Ma and Pa (originally played by Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, Karen Grassle and Michael Landon) became firm favourites in households across the UK and America when the show aired from 1974 to 1983 — and now a new cast AND a second series has been announced!

The show followed their struggles and adventures living on a farm in the Midwest.

In a post shared on social media on 3rd March 2026, Netflix revealed: 'The Ingalls family is on their way. Little House on the Prairie premieres July 9 and the series has been officially renewed for Season 2!'

The new series is being executive produced by Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Vampire Diaries) who was a fan of the books herself, along with Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Dana Fox, Susanna Fogel and Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions; the son of the original series producer.

Alongside images of the cast shared on social media in June 2025, Netflix revealed production was underway.

Who will star in the series?

Charles and Caroline (Ma and Pa) will be played by Point Break and Little Fires Everywhere's Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald (from Palm Royale/The First Lady). Meanwhile the Ingalls daughters will be played by Alice Halsey (Laura) and Skywalker Hughes (Mary).

When will The Little House on the Prairie remake arrive on screens?

It's now been revealed the remake will arrive on screens on Thursday 9th July 2026.

How can I watch The Little House on the Prairie new series?

When it drops, it will be available to watch on Netflix.

Will there be a second series?

Yes. It was confirmed in March 2026 that a second series is already in the works! It's not currently known when that might air.
