Channel 4 commissions new series of Educating Yorkshire

Following the return of Educating Yorkshire in 2025, after a 10-year absence, Channel 4 bosses have now announced they've commissioned yet another series, following the children at Thornhill Community Academy.

Sharing the exciting news on social media, Channel 4 said: 'Educating Yorkshire to return to @channel4 for a new series 📚 Thornhill Community Academy opens its doors once again for more heartfelt, funny and inspiring stories.

'Following its hugely successful return in 2025, the series continues to capture the realities of modern school life and the challenges shaping a new generation'. (sic)

Rita Daniels, Commissioning Editor at Channel 4 said: “Last year’s return to Thornhill Community Academy was both insightful and emotional, providing the perfect snapshot of today’s high school experience. The Thornhill kids were brave and brilliant when opening up about the modern challenges of teenage life. We know that there will be kids across the country dealing with similar issues and we hope they will continue to see themselves in a new series of this exceptional show.”

Matthew Burton, Headteacher at Thornhill Community Academy, said: “I’m really pleased to welcome Twofour back to Thornhill, to highlight more of the important work that goes on in schools up and down the country, day in, day out. As many people will have seen last year, our students and staff are so inspiring, and to have the chance, again, to show the extent of the quiet, life-changing work that happens day by day is a real privilege...

"Our priority at TCA will always be sharply focusing on the safety, wellbeing and education of our students. We look forward to working (hard and being nice) with Twofour and Channel 4 to develop an important series over the next year.”

When will it be on TV?

There's no word yet on when Educating Yorkshire will return, but the 2025 series started at the end August.

Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury, England is the secondary school which features on Educating Yorkshire.

The show will once again be available to watch on Channel 4.

How can I watch old series?

The first two series of Educating Yorkshire are available to watch now on Channel 4's streaming service. Fans can also watch spin-off shows Educating Essex, Educating Cardiff, and Educating Greater Manchester.

The first series of Educating Yorkshire aired in 2013 and was made up of eight episodes, all filmed at Thornhill Community Academy.

Channel 4 bosses say the first series of Educating Yorkshire is to date one of the best performing factual titles on its streaming platform.

One heart-warming scene from series one included Mr Burton helping young student Musharaf Asghar with his stammer during his English speaking exam, advising him to listen to music.

After completing his GCSEs, Musharaf went on to get a degree in Broadcast Journalism, and he's now a motivational speaker.

He says on his LinkedIn profile: 'My name is Musharaf Asghar, and I live life as a keynote speaker with a stammer. I recently finished my degree in Broadcast Journalism to raise awareness of others similar to me. Since my story was first told on the Emmy Award winning series, I have devoted my years to spreading the awareness about stammering and showing the resilience to never give up despite being told I’d never speak again.'
