Tony Iommi unleashes colossal new song 'Stormwatcher'
The latest taster of his new solo album 'From the Dark'
Fresh receiving his MBE at Windsor Castle, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has unleashed his colossal new solo song, ‘Stormwatcher’.
Following hot on the heels of Planet Rock playlisted anthem ‘World Alone’, ‘Stormwatcher’ is lifted from Tony Iommi’s first solo album in 21 years, ‘From the Dark’, which lands on Friday 23rd October.
The five-minute track is powered by Tony’s trademark doom-drenched riffs, and it perfectly captures the Sabbath-esque ominous soundscapes that permeate throughout ‘From the Dark’.
Thematically, the song is about a ship fighting for survival in a tempestuous storm, and the dramatic animated video brings the lyrics and imagery of Norwegian powerhouse vocal Jørn Lande to life.
Watch Tony Iommi’s ‘Stormwatcher’ video:
“It channels something from within, something real,” Jørn Lande says of the lyrics. “We are the captain of our own vessel, a ship crashing through unknown and sometimes challenging waters, always navigating forward, steering steady through every storm, driven by dreams of new horizons and longing for something new.”
‘From the Dark’ is co-produced by Tony and his longtime collaborator Mike Exeter, and it also features bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil.
Tony Iommi says: “It's an album we've really enjoyed making. We're not trying to prove anything - it's a great album, it rocks!”
