The Eagles are swooping into 2026 with a massive history-making moment for rock fans everywhere. They've just secured the first-ever Quadruple Diamond certification from the RIAA for 'Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975', that means over 40 million units sold.

This cements it as the top-selling U.S. album ever, while 'Hotel California' scores a fresh 28x Platinum nod, landing third on the all-time list.

Who are the Eagles?

In 1971, the Eagles formed and pioneered a uniquely American musical style, blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities. They would go on to become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six number 1 albums and topped the singles chart five times.

They earned six GRAMMY® Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

Epic milestones

This compilation was the very first album the RIAA ever certified Platinum, hitting Number 1 for five weeks in 1976 thanks to hits like 'Witchy Woman', 'Already Gone', and 'The Best Of My Love'.

It's racked up 500+ nonconsecutive weeks on the charts, joined the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2017, and was crowned the century's best-seller back in 1999, with the big cert drop timed perfectly ahead of both albums' 50th birthdays this year.

The band is also receiving a one-of-a-kind RIAA plaque for 40 million: a beast at 59 inches tall by 48 inches wide. Lay out 40 million vinyl copies end-to-end? You'd stretch 7,575 miles, from L.A. to Cairo. That's about one-eighth of the U.S. population, topping California's headcount too!

50th anniversary vinyl

Before 'Their Greatest Hits' 50th debuts on 17th February 2026, a crystal-clear 180-gram vinyl will drop exclusively on the Eagles website.

It pulls the best from their first four albums ('Eagles', 'Desperado', 'On the Border,' and 'One of These Nights'), highlighting killer harmonies in 'Lyin’ Eyes', the country-rock vibe of 'Take It Easy,' and 'Desperado's storytelling punch.
