The wonderful Kylie Minogue joined Harriet Scott at Magic Radio to chat about her new documentary, simply named KYLIE, available to watch on Netflix from 20th May 2026.
The documentary follows Kylie from the beginning of her career, up to the present day and features interviews with Dannii Minogue, Jason Donovan, Nick Cave and Pete Waterman, along with Kylie herself.
The 'Padam Padam' singer opened up to Harriett Scott about the documentary, explaining why now was the right time to tell her story, and what the most difficult parts of seeing it were. The singer also opened about her iconic 'Spinning Around' gold hot pants, confirming their origin story, and teased a return to acting.
Why did Kylie Minogue decide to do the Netflix documentary?
Kylie has been in the music and TV industry since the 80s, so why was 2026 the right year for her to open up about her career and life? The singer explained to Harriet there were a number of reasons for her to take part in the documentary now.
"The right team, right producer and director, you know, experienced, kind, not in this to exploit me, just to try and harness the story," Kylie explained. "And I don't know how to do it. I mean, I don't think I could, I literally did a trust fall and went with them.
"And at certain points in life, and I think I've kind of felt this in the last, well, maybe I've always felt this, if not now, when?
"And yes, I've lived a public life, but I am a private person. I would go crazy if I didn't have that. So, I mean, I'm kind of like, oh, I shared too much, but I guess I live this in my mind, in my body, in my past. But I haven't actually said a lot of these things in this kind of way. There's never the right time or place or moment. And I feel like this was the vessel. for it."
When asked if there were any ground rules, Kylie admitted: "If there was anything I didn't give them, they would have found it."
She continued: "It's just too overwhelming. I've got my personal archive... And even now I kind of drip-fed stuff and then it was just, it was too overwhelming for me. I was like, just take it. You've earned my trust.
"My brother was on it. My family were on it. Like, especially family things… There was a whole conversation like, are you guys OK with me doing this documentary? And I hope it stays that way. This isn't like I've opened the doors and you're moving in.
"But it is. Yeah, it's different to normal promo where you're jazz hands and you've got, five minutes to talk about stuff."

What is the hardest part to watch?
Kylie revealed she's watched the documentary three times and there are certain parts she finds hard to watch. The singer explained: "Stuff where I know my family would be really moved. That's hard for me.
"There's definitely... you know, be prepared. There will be a weep... I mean, there's going to be tears."
Opening up about the emotional parts more, Kylie told Harriet: "Of course, there's joy and triumph and all of those other things, I think it encapsulates a lot of what all of our lives hold.
"But that's a bit that gets me emotional is family stuff and kind of taking a step back and seeing my mum, dad, my brother, sister, what they've gone through with me.
"And I'm not solely talking about health matters and that journey, my cancer diagnosis and all of that, but just, your child going out into the world and trying to find their way and dealing with a lot of the stuff that I dealt with, that really moves me."
Will Kylie return to acting?
As we all know, back in the 80s, Kylie started out as an actress, and she reunited with her on-screen husband from Neighbours, Jason Donovan (who played Scott Robinson) at the premiere of the documentary. Many fans loved seeing the reunion as they appeared on the red carpet together, with one fan commenting: 'I don’t care, these two were made for each other. They need to stop playing', another commented: 'They are a perfect match❤❤❤'.
Reminiscing about her early days as an actress, and teasing a return to acting, Kylie told Harriet: "There might be some acting on the horizon, which, you know... kind of going through the lens of the documentary, there's a good dose of Neighbours moments in that one, which is just unreal.
"And I realise I do miss acting, so that's something I'd like to get into again."
Kylie's iconic hot pants
Back in 2000, Kylie released her massive hit 'Spinning Around', which was accompanied by the iconic music video, which featured THOSE hot pants. 26 years later, and we're still talking about them! The singer admitted she was "good condition" when they started filming the iconic video.
Re-telling the story of how they found the hot pants, she explained: "My girlfriend found the hot pants at an op shop. We say in Australia, op shop at a secondhand store, charity shop. And they were 50 pence, (they) lived in my wardrobe.
"Then my stylist at the time... we were styling ‘Spinning Around’ and they looked really paltry."
However, when she put them on for a fitting session with the director of the music video, Kylie asked: "'What do you think?’ And I was a bit, ‘are these too much?’ and she just said 'no'."
Recounting the video shoot, she said: "But I honestly didn't know it was quite as close as it was on the day. You know, you start those shoots kind of very, a bit shy. You know, I do still have a modicum of modesty, believe it or not. I'm kind of, oh, where's… get the robe and a day on set kind of feels like forever. So kind seven hours in, you're like, ‘yeah, whatever’."
