Explosion in Scarborough leads to evacuations and emergency response
Multi-agency effort underway on Cambridge Street

An explosion at a residential property on Cambridge Street in Scarborough occurred early this morning.
Fire crews are supporting a multi-agency response alongside the ambulance service, police, and the gas board, after the incident was reported at around 5.45am today (8 May).
A spokesperson from Yorkshire Ambulance Service said that resources were sent to the scene, and two people were conveyed to hospital.
We do not yet know the severity of their injuries.
Approximately 50 to 70 homes and businesses nearby have been evacuated as a precaution, and a cordon remains in place.
Firefighters, including teams from Scarborough, Sherburn, Robin Hoods Bay, as well as a specialist incident support unit, are on the scene extinguishing the fire using breathing apparatus.
As emergency services continue to handle the situation, the public is advised to avoid the area.
