New arrest in Lucy Letby gross negligence manslaughter investigation
Enquiries into corporate and gross negligence manslaughter are continuing
Police investigating the potential of gross negligence at a Cheshire hospital where Lucy Letby worked have made another arrest.
Officers executed a search warrant on Wednesday 22nd April as part of Operation Duet.
Cheshire Constabulary said the person was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
They have since been bailed while enquiries continue.
What is Operation Duet
Operation Duet is the investigation into corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter linked to the Countess of Chester Hospital.
The investigation began in October 2023 following the conviction of Lucy Letby.
It focuses on senior leadership and decision making at the hospital and whether any criminal offences were committed in response to rising numbers of deaths.
In March 2025, detectives widened the investigation to include gross negligence manslaughter.
Police said this is a separate offence from corporate manslaughter and looks at the actions or inaction of individuals.
They also confirmed the investigation does not affect the convictions of Lucy Letby for multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.
Previous arrests
On Monday 30th June 2025, three people who were part of the hospital’s senior leadership team between 2015 and 2016 were arrested.
They were suspected of gross negligence manslaughter.
All three were later bailed while enquiries continued.
