Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick's future is in doubt after talks between the club's senior figures.

Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox arrived at the club's Carrington training complex on Monday morning.

Talks over the managerial situation followed Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford and continued after they arrived, it's understood.

Carrick arrived at the training ground shortly before 2pm.

United's Under-21s were playing Hull in a friendly behind closed doors at the time.

Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have been mentioned as potential replacements.

Run of results

Carrick was given a two-year deal to stay on as United boss after his January arrival.

He took over after Ruben Amorim's spell in charge, and the team climbed to third in the Premier League.

Just five months later, United have gone eight games without a win following the Bournemouth defeat and a 4-1 Champions League loss at Como days earlier.

They have won just two of their 12 matches in all competitions this season.

Their return of seven points from eight matches is their worst start to a season since 1986.

United are 16th in the Premier League, a point above the relegation zone.

They travel to Chelsea on Saturday, with home games against Roma and Aston Villa also coming up before the international break.

Fans' reaction at Old Trafford

Carrick did not answer questions over his future after the Bournemouth game.

He waved to the crowd and patted his chest as he left the pitch, while fans chanted his name in support.

The anger from the Old Trafford crowd was aimed at the Glazers, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Ineos set-up, including Wilcox.

Players were booed at the final whistle, and again as they followed Carrick down the tunnel.

Captain and defender

Carrick left captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench against Bournemouth.

The 32-year-old won last season's Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' Association awards.

He questioned the manager's tactics after the defeat at Como.

Carrick said the decision to leave him out was made on football grounds before the match, rather than as punishment, and he did not bring Fernandes on.

Fernandes was at Carrington on Monday, a day off for the players, for what is understood to be pre-planned treatment.

His comments in Italy came a week after Lisandro Martinez was fined and brought in for talks.

Martinez had criticised the club hierarchy in interviews after the loss at Atletico Madrid.
