Lionesses return to UK following Women's Euro 2025 victory
The team touched down at Southend Airport after winning against Spain
England's Lionesses squad have returned to the UK after their victory over Spain in the final of the Women's Euros championship in Switzerland.
Hundreds of fans watched as the team touched down at Southend Airport on Monday afternoon (July 28th), after they beat Spain following a tense penalty shootout in Basel on Sunday.
Many fans were seen holding England flags, as well as their England shirts as the team disembarked from the plane, to huge cheers.
Team captain Leah Williamson was seen smiling as she held the trophy while she left the team's hotel in Zurich ahead of their return to the UK.
Lauren Hemp was also seen carrying a Lego replica of the castle seen in Beauty and the Beast as she made her way home.
Two young fans from Essex, twins Poppy and Daisy McDonald, aged 11, were happy to see the players return to the UK following their triumphant victory.
"We're so proud. They've won it two times in a row and they've worked so hard for it," the twins said. "They've had a lot of injuries and setbacks but they've done really well."
In a post uploaded to social media, the team shared a photo that saw the trophy draped in an England fan taking up a seat on the plane as it returned to England.
After landing in Essex, the Lionesses will make their way to London, where Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock will welcome the team to Downing Street later today.
Tuesday (July 29th) will see an open-top bus procession along The Mall before a final homecoming ceremony will be held in front of Buckingham Palace.
