New international shop set to open later this month
Last updated 12th May 2026
Travelers passing through Tenerife South airport will soon have the option to indulge in Greggs' popular offerings as the UK bakery chain announces its new international location is set to open later this month.
The opening marks Greggs' first overseas expansion since its operations in Belgium in 2008.
Tenerife South airport was chosen by the company as the ideal location due to its annual influx of approximately 13 million travelers, half of whom are flying to and from the UK.
A taste of home abroad
The new outlet promises a range of Greggs' signature bakes, rolls, and sweet treats, alongside freshly-made sandwiches.
The menu also includes a Spanish omelette roll for breakfast and freshly squeezed orange juice prepared on-site, providing what Greggs describes as “a refreshing taste of island life.”
Customers can expect seating for up to 92 guests.
Strategic partnership
Greggs has partnered with Lagardere Travel Retail for this venture, leveraging the company's extensive experience in operating stores across airports, railway stations, and other locations in more than 50 countries.
Roisin Currie, Greggs’ chief executive, emphasised the strategic importance of Tenerife South Airport as a hub for UK and international passengers, stating: “It’s an exciting milestone for Greggs as we bring a slice of home to the Canaries, and we’re confident our great-value offering will resonate just as well under the Spanish sun as it does on the UK high street.”
Javier Cagigal, chief executive of Lagardere Travel Retail Spain and Portugal, echoed this sentiment: “We’re delighted to partner with Greggs to bring such a well-loved brand into Tenerife South Airport for the very first time.”
The exact opening date has yet to be announced, but the shop is slated to be situated in the international departures area.
