The alleged Golders Green attacker will appear at the Old Bailey accused of stabbing two Jewish men in the street and injuring a friend.

Essa Suleiman, 45, allegedly targeted Shloime Rand, 34, and Norman Shine, 76, during a knife rampage in north London on Wednesday, April 29.

Mr Rand was stabbed in the chest as he left a synagogue while Mr Shine was allegedly stabbed in the neck at a bus stop as he adjusted the traditional Jewish kippah on his head.

A member of the public had tried to intervene before the suspect was tasered and apprehended by police.

Mr Rand and Mr Shine were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries.

Alleged attack hours before

Hours before the Golders Green incident, the defendant allegedly attacked his friend of 20 years, Ishmail Hussein, at his home in Southwark, south London.

It is alleged Suleiman tried to stab Mr Hussein in his upper body, but his friend fended him off.

Suleiman is then said to have travelled to Brent Cross Underground station before going on to Golders Green.

The Somalia-born defendant, of Camberwell, south London, is charged with three counts of attempted murder and possessing a black handled knife in a public place.

He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday for a preliminary hearing before Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb.
