Emergency services evacuate houses after property fire in Derby

Local roads closed as fire spreads from garden to homes

A fire affecting several properties on Normanton Road in Derby has prompted a major response from emergency services.

Firefighters from Long Eaton, Heanor, Kingsway, and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (Highfields and Stapleford) are at the scene, supported by an aerial ladder platform.

The initial report came in just before 1:20pm on 1st August, following a 999 call about a fire at a flat near the junction with Wilmot Street.

Upon arrival, crews discovered the fire had spread from a garden to three properties, leading to evacuations of nearby homes.

Residents are urged to avoid the area while emergency services work to contain the situation.

Several roads in Normanton have been closed: the entrance to College Park, Normanton Road at the junction with Lara Croft Way, Normanton Road at the junction with Wilmot Street, and Normanton Road at the junction with Leopold Street.

Local residents who can see or smell smoke are advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service remain on site, and updates will be provided as they become available.
