The East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust has declared a critical incident due to heightened pressure following a significant rise in demand for services during the heatwave.

The service made the announcement at 2.30pm on Saturday, 27th June, highlighting the stress placed on ambulance services across the region.

According to bosses, the previous 24 hours saw n a notable increase in demand, compounded by ongoing pressures within the NHS and challenges posed by the weather.

EMAS says is taking measures to address the situation, including working closely with hospitals for timely patient handovers, directing patients to appropriate care, and prioritising life-threatening cases.

Staff members have been working to address these needs amid the widespread pressure across the NHS, with all possible internal options already explored to mitigate risk says a statement.

Members of the public are encouraged to use NHS services wisely and manage long-term conditions with regular medication.

EMAS advises seeking alternative care through pharmacies, urgent treatment centres, or general practitioners unless facing a life-threatening illness or injury.

With weather-related factors contributing to the situation, it is advised to act responsibly and avoid unnecessary risks.
