There is set to be disruption at Sellafield, as Unite members working for PX Limited, the firm supplying the steam and power to the Cumbria nuclear site, are walking out in a dispute over pay.
Almost 40 workers will take industrial action from 7am on 19 August to 7am on 20 August after turning down two unsatisfactory pay offers from the employer - with the final being 3.5 per cent to 5 per cent depending on a set of criteria.
Members at PX Limited who will be on strike include operators, team leaders, planners and buyers. Workers are also currently undertaking an overtime ban.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "PX Limited can clearly afford to pay our members for the vital work they do but is choosing to put profits over people. This dispute is completely caused by the employer's greed.
"Unite will always back our members every step of the way in any dispute and this is no exception. The workers at PX Limited have our full support."
Unite regional officer Ryan Armstrong said: "This dispute involves the whole spectrum of the workforce so any industrial action would be very disruptive. However PX Limited could stop this if they come to the table with a deal appropriate for our members."
A Sellafield Ltd spokesman said: “We are aware of a dispute involving contractors working for PX Ltd at the Fellside Combined Heat and Power facility, adjacent to the Sellafield site.
“Sellafield Ltd is not directly involved in this dispute.
“As always, the safety and security of the Sellafield site, our workforce, and the local community will be our priority during any industrial action.”
