A charity responsible for looking after the Malvern Hills is urging people to listen to their advice and stay out of a quarry situated between Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The Malvern Hills Trust is reminding the public to not swim in Gullet Quarry following the recent arrival of warm weather.

Barriers to restrict access to the site and warning signs were installed following the deaths of two young men who drowned in the quarry lake in 2013.

It's putting out the warning after it said "a number of people were asked to leave Gullet Quarry" after gaining access towards the end of May.

Marie Dipple, community and conservation officer at Malvern Hills Trust, said: "We understand that people want to get outside and they want to connect with nature and cool off in the hot weather.

With Gullet Quarry, which is one of the sites in the Malvern Hills, it's just really, really simple, we don't allow people to swim there and we can't advise that people go into it.

"It has got a fence around the outside, it is not accessible for a reason, it's a quarry, so the quarry faces are really unstable, and the temperature of the water is very, very cold, so it's quite a dangerous place to be."

The Worcester-based Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) has also recently reminded people to make sure they are prioritising water safety and are staying safe around open bodies of water.

Further information can be found on the RLSS website.
