A Worcestershire-based national water safety charity is reminding people in both counties to take extra care in and around open bodies of water when heading out this bank holiday weekend.

The message comes as the warmer weather has started to arrive, with temperatures expected to rise and remain high across Herefordshire and Worcestershire for the upcoming few days.

The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), which is located in Worcester, is highlighting how the air temperature differs to what the water temperature is and is urging anyone who is planning to go for a swim to do so in a safe place.

Head of water safety and education at the RLSS, Ashley Jones, said: "What we do is really encourage anybody that is planning on getting into the water to stop and think and do that in a safe way.

"So find a safe place to swim, that might be a managed venue, and there's lots of lovely outdoor venues that are now managed, or a lifeguarded swimming pool for example, or if you are heading to the coast then a lifeguarded beach.

"Stay together, so do your activity with another person, that might be with a friend, if it's a child then we want them to go with their adult, and really stick together and then you can help each other if there is an emergency."
