Gemma Atkinson on emotional meeting with nurse who saved her nephew's life
Her nephew had meningitis when he was a baby
Gemma Atkinson recently opened up about an emotional moment when she and her mum saw the nurse who saved her nephew's life. The Hits Radio presenter told of the chance encounter she had one day in a café, to her co-host Wes Butters (standing in for Mike Toolan). She told him: "So I was having some food with my mum and Mia in a café, and there was a lady who was sat a bit behind us.
"My mum kept staring over at her and I was thinking 'What's she doing?', and my nephew Tyler, when he was a baby, he had meningitis, and he was really, really poorly Wes. Like, he was in the intensive care unit, they told us all to come up and essentially there was nothing they could do.
"He made a miraculous recovery and he's like 25 now! Perfectly fine, all good. And I said, 'Why do you keep looking at that lady?', and she just said, 'She saved Tyler's life!'
"And I said, 'What?'. She said, 'That was the nurse who saved Tyler's life', she said, 'When we took him to A&E, that lady came over so calm, wrapped him in foil, took him off me and said, 'It's meningitis'."

Her mum went on to explain to Gemma that despite not seeing her since that day, she'd "never forget a face". The Hits Radio presenter then said that they went over to talk to the lady, who recognised Gemma's mum. The emotional reunion ended with the nurse and Gemma's mum both crying, and telling her how she was convinced it was her swift actions that saved Gemma's nephew's life. ❤️
