A son has appeared in court accused of murdering his mother.

James Richardson, 39, faced Taunton Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Janet Richardson.

Mrs Richardson sustained significant injuries during an alleged incident at her home in Yatton, North Somerset, in April 2021 when she was attacked with a crowbar.

She died in January 2024 at the age of 72.

Richardson, of no fixed abode, was remanded into custody by JPs and ordered to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “An investigation into Mrs Richardson’s death has been carried out by Avon and Somerset Police and the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a murder charge.”
