Four men have been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in connection with an incident on Stapleton Road in Bristol.
The charges follow the death of 47-year-old Leon Phillips, who died in hospital on Tuesday, 3rd February.
The men, Ayoob Mohamed, 18, from St Pauls; Muner Teclu, 20, from Easton; Fallou Diop, 19, of no fixed address; and Mustafa Ali, 18, from Fishponds, were charged yesterday (5th January) and are due to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today, 6th February.
A 29-year-old man has been released from custody without charge, and no further action will be taken against him.
Two other men, arrested earlier in the week, have been released on bail.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Nadine Partridge commented on the quick progress of the investigation:
“Our investigation into Leon’s death has been moving quickly, and the team has been working incredibly hard to understand exactly what happened on Monday night. A huge amount of time and care is going into building a clear picture of the events that led to this tragic loss."
She also praised the response officers who were first on the scene for their professionalism, stating that their actions contributed significantly to the early stages of the inquiry.
DCI Partridge extended her condolences to Leon’s family, noting that specialist officers have been keeping them informed of developments.
While investigations are ongoing, she urged the public to avoid speculation or sharing anything online that could interfere with future proceedings.
“Your support and understanding genuinely make a difference,” she said.
