Train services between Bristol Temple Meads, Severn Beach and Avonmouth have been disrupted after a lorry collided with a level crossing barrier earlier this morning.

The incident happened between Avonmouth and Severn Beach, blocking the line and causing delays for passengers across the route.

Great Western Railway confirmed the collision, which took place around 8:40am, led to the temporary suspension of some train services between Temple Meads and Severn Beach via Clifton Down and Avonmouth.

National Rail has said that repairs are underway, with Network Rail staff heading to the scene to fix the damaged barrier.

While trains are still running, they are operating at reduced speeds until the repairs are completed.

Passengers are advised to travel as normal and catch their intended train. If a service is cancelled, tickets can be used on either of the two trains before or after the original service, at no extra cost.

Connections missed due to delays will also be honoured on the next available train.

Commuters are urged to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journey while disruption continues.

More updates are expected as rail staff work to fully restore services.
