The streets of Bristol are set to be alive the determination of young runners, as children aged three to eight participate in the Mini Great Bristol Run.

Among these inspiring young athletes are three friends, Leo N, Leo P, and Luca P, who have not only joined the race but have turned their participation into a meaningful fundraiser for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal.

Team Leos and Luca: A Heartfelt Mission

The trio, known as "Team Leos and Luca," is running for a cause close to their hearts as Bristol Children’s Hospital has played a crucial role in their lives.

Leo N, who was born with multiple heart conditions, underwent life-saving open-heart surgery at just seven days old and continues to manage his condition with ongoing treatment.

His sister Adley faces her own medical journey, having been born with her major organs in her chest, requiring regular care and appointments.

Luca, diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, is recovering from a procedure that assists his eating and drinking challenges and is thriving under medical specialist care.

Fundraising for the Grand Appeal

The idea to support Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal began with Leo P, whose brother is also a patient at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Moved by the charity’s impact, Leo P decided to raise funds, swiftly joined by Leo N and Luca P. Together, they formed "Team Leos and Luca," channeling their sporting passions into a positive action to help others.

The children have trained diligently in their school’s athletics club and football team, gearing their sportsmanship towards this meaningful race.

In preparation for the race, the children have placed a special emphasis on finishing together, particularly as Luca P might not be able to run or jog very far.

Leo N and Leo P plan to loop back after completing the 1.5km run, ensuring Luca can cross the finish line alongside them.
