Former teacher charged with non-recent sexual offences
79-year-old to appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court tomorrow
A former teacher is facing numerous charges of non-recent sexual offences following investigations into events from several decades ago.
David Henry Shelly Wright, aged 79, is accused of committing 11 offences against five boys during his time at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital independent school in Berkeley Place, Bristol.
He is scheduled to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on 21st May to respond to these charges.
The charges relate to incidents allegedly occurring in the 1980s and 1990s when Wright was employed as a teacher, boarding master, and later a non-teaching employee at the school.
Det Insp Hannah Marsh revealed that the investigation commenced in April 2020 after a third-party referral to the police led to Wright being charged.
"We’re keeping the victims updated on the progress of this investigation and will continue to provide them access to any specialist support or advice they need" - Marsh said.
The police have advised the public against sharing any information or commentary related to the ongoing case to ensure that the legal process is not prejudiced.
Those with information or concerns are invited to contact the investigation team via the Avon and Somerset Police website, by calling 101, or visiting enquiry offices and referencing number 5220073604.
