Ex-independent school teacher denies sex offences against boys
The charges relate to offences allegedly committed in the 1980s and 1990s
A former independent school teacher has denied a series of historic sexual offences against boys.
David Henry Shelly Wright, 79, appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Thursday accused of 11 offences.
The charges relate to offences allegedly committed against five boys in the 1980s and 1990s at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital independent school in Berkeley Place, Bristol.
Wright, of Longwell Green, South Gloucestershire, worked at the school as a teacher and boarding master and later as a non-teaching employee.
He pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges and was granted unconditional bail until a hearing at Bristol Crown Court on June 29.
District Judge Lynne Matthews said: “You’re charged with a number of alleged offences which I’m going to send to the crown court.
“You can have unconditional bail until your hearing at the crown court in Bristol.”
Detective Inspector Hannah Marsh, of Avon and Somerset Police, said on Wednesday: “An investigation was launched in April 2020 following a third-party referral to the police.
“Our inquiries have resulted in the defendant being charged with 11 offences against five boys.
“We’re keeping the victims updated on the progress of this investigation and will continue to provide them access to any specialist support or advice they need.”
