Consultation launched on plans to build a second reservoir in Cheddar
The Cheddar 2 Reservoir will be located alongside the existing reservoir
People are being asked for their thoughts on plans to build a second reservoir in Cheddar.
West Country Water and Environment (WCWE) announced plans for Cheddar 2 in early 2025, with the aim to futureproof the region’s resilience against climate change and drought.
"As we face the dual challenges of climate change and a growing population, we must find new and sustainable ways to secure our water supply while protecting our environment," said Steve Lanzon, Programme Director at WCWE
"The Cheddar 2 Reservoir and Transfer project is a testament to our commitment to these goals."
The Cheddar 2 Reservoir will be located alongside the existing reservoir and store surplus water from the River Axe and Cheddar Yeo.
Public consultation will run for four weeks and gather views on the plans, including approximately 76 kilometres of new pipeline.
"By providing a vital new water source, supporting a balanced and sustainable water supply alongside ongoing efforts to reduce demand and fix leaks across the network, we are confident that the Cheddar 2 Reservoir and Transfer project will set a new benchmark for sustainable water management," added Steve Lanzon.
"Your feedback and support are crucial as we strive to build a resilient and sustainable water supply network for the future."
