A man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping a woman, as well as being placed under a restraining order to protect his victim.

Bibak Singh, a 37-year-old from Stonebridge Park, Bristol, received the sentence at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, 17th April.

He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Singh was found guilty of rape and controlling and coercive behaviour in a trial that lasted six days at the same court in March.

During the trial, the jury heard allegations against Singh, including how he raped the woman and emotionally manipulated her.

The victim shared a personal statement with the court, in which she expressed the long-term impact of Singh's actions on her life.

Singh has also been added to the Sex Offender's Register, and the court granted a restraining order to prevent him from contacting the victim.

DS Matthew Beavis, from Avon & Somerset Police, said: “The victim has shown remarkable strength and resilience throughout both the investigation and the court process.

“She has made clear her hope that others will feel empowered to come forward and stand up to those who seek to control and repress them.

“This was a deeply disturbing offence. Singh’s actions were calculated and sustained, and the victim has been left to live with the long‑term effects of his manipulation, violence and control.

“This case underlines the importance of empowering victims, and I hope it gives others the confidence to speak out and seek justice.”
