Young people invited to explore creative industries at Dumfries & Galloway Carnival via new Digital Academy
Free programme provides hands-on experience in digital media and event production
What's on Offer?
Young people across the region are being given the chance to gain insider experience at the region's largest new festival through the Dumfries & Galloway Carnival's Digital Academy.
This free initiative is open to S3–S6 pupils and runs from 4pm to 5:30pm every Wednesday between 2nd September and 25th November at The Supper Club, 70 High Street.
Participants will engage in 12 creative workshops where they can develop skills in photography, digital media, filmmaking, marketing, and live event production.
Learning from Industry Experts
Led by Kirsty Adamson, Dumfries-based entrepreneur and digital marketing specialist, the programme promises hands-on learning with industry professionals.
"The Digital Academy is a chance to give young people access to people working in the industry, while giving them real experience of working on a major live event," she said.

Preparing for Carnival Participation
The programme is designed to build confidence and practical experience while leading to participation in the Dumfries & Galloway Carnival scheduled for 30th January 2027.
The Carnival spans from 29th to 31st January 2027, with participants applying their newfound skills in digital coverage for the event.
Adamson emphasises the value in practical experience: “Whether someone is interested in social media, filming, photography, presenting, directing, marketing, broadcasting or simply wants to build their confidence and try something completely new, there will be something for them.”

Building Friendships and Careers
The initiative aims to serve as a youth media project, providing young people with an opportunity to learn collaboratively. No previous experience is needed, and workshops are tailored to different skill levels and interests.
Alongside skills development, the programme allows participants to make new friends and explore potential career pathways.
Young people interested in the programme can register their interest to be part of this creative opportunity.
