Detectives investigating attempted murder of two police officers extend probe to Scottish Borders

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of two police officers in South Lanarkshire say the man they're looking for has travelled to the Scottish Borders and is being assisted by associates.

It follows an incident in Larkhall last month, when a white Renault Traffic van was deliberately driven at police carrying out enquiries at a property on Glen Avenue.

Two male officers, aged 41 and 43, were taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Both have since been discharged, although the force says they will remain unfit for duty for a prolonged period. 

More than 80 properties have now been searched throughout Lanarkshire and the Scottish Borders, following a trawl of CCTV and extensive door-door enquiries which has allowed police to track the man’s movements since the incident, around 2.10pm on Saturday, July 25th.

And officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Inspector Alister Thom said: “This act of violence left two police officers seriously injured and significant enquiries remain ongoing to trace the man responsible.

"We know he has been travelling throughout Lanarkshire, Glasgow and the Scottish Borders and know that he is being assisted by associates.

"If you know where he is, or have information which could assist us, I am urging you to do the right thing and contact us immediately in confidence."

On Friday, a 34-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

She is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court tomorrow (August 18th).
