'Absolutely heartbreaking': Almost 100 years of silverware stolen in golf club raid

Trophies representing almost a century of history at a Borders golf club have been stolen during a late-night break-in.
The raid happened in Minto, not far from Center Parcs new development north of Hawick, at around 10.45pm on Saturday — just hours after their Captain's Charity Day.
Pictures show glass was ripped off the trophy cabinets to gain entry before being emptied.
Officials say they've been left devastated and are urging anyone with information to contact police.
"These trophies are far more than pieces of silverware," a spokesperson said. "They represent almost 100 years of history, achievements, friendships and treasured memories of generations of members.
"To see that history taken from our club is absolutely heartbreaking.
"We would like to thank Police Scotland for their swift response and for their efforts to investigate the incident and, hopefully, recover our trophies.
"We sincerely hope that these irreplaceable pieces of our club’s history can be returned."
Other clubs in the region have also been urged to up their security following the weekend raid.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 3962 of August 15th.
Detective Constable Bruce Dodds, of Police Scotland, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone with any information to contact us.
“A number of trophies of sentimental value were taken and we are keen to recover them as soon as possible.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to get in touch.”

Meanwhile, police are also investigating after "a significant number of whisky bottles" were stolen after windows were smashed at what's understood to be the Borders Distillery in Hawick around 3am on Sunday.
The visitor attraction in Commercial Road closed following the incident but has since reopened.
A spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1045 of Sunday, August 16th."
Elsewhere, there are unconfirmed reports of bikes being stolen from a shed in Wooler on the same night. We've contacted Northumbria Police for more information.
