As the 30th anniversary of Texas' album 'White On Blonde' nears, lead singer Sharleen Spiteri joined Garry Spence on Forth 1 to chat about the band's upcoming tour, not losing her Scottish accent - despite living in London, and how there was one particular year that changed her life.

The 58-year-old singer, who has been part of Texas since she was 17, has seen many ups and downs over the years as part of the band, but she revealed there was one stand out year for her, for a very different reason.

Sharleen Spiteri's Scottish roots

Despite living in London now for around three decades, Sharleen definitely hasn't forgotten her Scottish roots, or her accent. Chatting to Garry and Steven, the singer explained that she likes to stock up on Mother's Pride when she's in Scotland.

"Whenever I go up the road, I literally bring a couple of loaves with me and stick them in the freezer!" Sharleen revealed.

She went on to say that sometimes being in London, she feels like her accent gets stronger, admitting: "I think I'm probably more Scottish than I was when I was in Scotland."

2002 changed Sharleen Spiteri's life

When Garry asked Sharleen to pick a year what was a highlight for her, she said: "I'm going to go (with) 2002 because my daughter was born. So that was like, for me, that was really special because I've been in Texas since I was... the week before my 18th birthday and I have had the best time of my life in Texas and I'm still having the best time of my life in Texas. I absolutely love it and it's there.

"But that was one thing that was very, very different.

"I mean, there's been so many highs, there's been massive lows within Texas, there's been moments where we could have got arrested, there's been moments where it's like planes, trains and automobiles, do you know what I mean?

"It's been mad. The people I've met, the stories that I've heard, the things, the parties that I've got to go to. It's just, it's an amazing, amazing life. And it's especially because it's a life that I chose."

She continued: "You know, it's what I chose to do, which not everybody gets the opportunity to choose to do something that that's what they really want to do. You know, it's a dream, it's a dream job.

"So when I had my daughter, that was something very, very different. And it was a big change up. And so that's a year that is always like 2002 is always a year for me."

Sharleen went on to reveal, that her daughter Misty Kyd now lives in New York, but she doesn't get any handouts from her mum. Recently, Misty was back visiting Sharleen when she was asked if she'd go out with some friends. But as Sharleen explained, Misty said: "'I can't afford to do that'. Because they were like looking at her, like going, well, 'We know who your mum is'.

"She's like, 'my mum doesn't give me any money'. And I'm like, 'you're freaking right I don't give you any money. If you want to go out for dinner with your mates and go and be really big. You pay for it then.' That's the way it goes."
