A woman has been given a life sentence after murdering her two-month-old baby daughter in West Bromwich.

Zara Arsalan, 31, must serve a minimum term of 19 years in prison.

The court heard how in July 2020, emergency services received a call that a baby had fallen from her mother's lap and was unresponsive.

Paramedics arrived at Arsalan's home and found her baby, Harleen, with a serious head injury.

She passed away in hospital the next day.

A post-mortem revealed that Harleen had multiple skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, fractured ribs and a fractured collar bone.

Evidence proved that the baby girl did not fall from Arsalan's lap, but was most likely shaken and injured against a hard surface.

Arsalan was arrested, charged and found guilty of baby Harleen's murder, despite repeatedly lying about what happened.
