Teenager arrested on suspicion of murder of man in Reading

A murder investigation is underway in Reading following a fatal stabbing.
Emergency services were called to reports of an incident in an alleyway in the Lower Earley area of the town at 4.25pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday 24th May 2026).
A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital, but he sadly died from his injuries.
His family has been informed, though formal identification and post-mortem checks are still to be done.
A teenage boy from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
An alleyway between Cutbush Lane, Kensington Close, and Gypsy Lane is currently cordoned off.
Police Presence and Community Response
Detective Inspector Nick Hind from Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Unit shared his sympathies for the victim’s family, urging the local community not to worry.
"We understand this murder will be of concern to the community, but we do not believe there is any threat to the wider public," Nick Hind said.
Investigations are in the early stages, but there will be more officers around while inquiries are carried out.

Inspector Hind asked the public not to speculate on social media, as it could interfere with the investigation.
"I would ask that at this time people refrain from speculation on social media or other mediums whilst we investigate to find the truth behind this incident and loss of life."
