Police investigating a fire involving a van in Prestatyn say the body recovered from the vehicle has been confirmed as an adult female.

A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder continues to be questioned by officers, after an extension of custody was granted last night (Tuesday).

The investigation began after emergency services were called to a van on fire on Gas Works Lane on Sunday night, 4th October. A body was found inside.

A Home Office postmortem was carried out yesterday, confirming the victim was an adult female. Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Police have asked people not to speculate on the identity of the victim on social media, and said the coroner is being kept informed of developments.

Detective Chief Inspector Zoie Dunkerley said: "I understand this incident will have caused concern to the local community, and our officers will be maintaining a visible presence in the area should anyone need to talk to us."

She added: "I would like to thank the members of the public who have already contacted us."
