Liam Potts' family pays heartfelt tribute amid ongoing investigation
Support floods in as community urged to assist police
The family of Lance Corporal Liam Potts, whose body was found earlier this month near the River Tyne, has shared a moving tribute following his tragic death.
With a deep expression of gratitude for the community’s support, Liam’s loved ones said, “To our Liam. You may no longer be here beside us, but your presence will never be forgotten. Your family, friends and colleagues have all said the same thing, 'once you met Pottsy, you could never forget him.'”
While Liam’s family, including Paul Potts, his father, have requested privacy during this difficult time, they remain thankful for the sincere compassion shown by the British Army and the entire community.
Their attention has been directed towards a GoFundMe page, created to support the Mountain Rescue Teams that assisted in the search efforts.
In the midst of the heartfelt reflections, Northumbria Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Liam’s disappearance and subsequent death after a night out with friends on 15th August.
Two men have been re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with Liam's death after his body was found in the River Tyne near Wylam Bridge on 18th August.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Rachael Rutherford noted Liam left the bridge on foot and entered the water for reasons yet unknown, following a disturbance.
“Our thoughts remain with Liam’s family during this difficult time,” Det Insp Rutherford said.
The Force's Major Investigation Team urges against speculation and seeks community assistance in the case.
