The King's surprised members of Sandringham's parkrun group to mark its first anniversary.

The volunteer-run event, which sees people walk, jog or run five kilometres every Saturday, was celebrating over the weekend, when Charles visited the group to mark the occasion.

They'd gathered for coffee and cake in the restaurant at the Sandringham Visitor Centre following Saturday's event, when the King snuck in for a chat.

"What an incredible morning"

Posting on Facebook, organisers said: "Today was a very very special and amazing parkrun - it was the last Saturday of the month, which means we link in with the Sandringham ‘5k Your Way - Move Against Cancer’ group.

"This is a national charity with, I think, 108 groups around the country but we’re currently the only one in Norfolk.

"It’s a support group with a difference for people living with or beyond cancer, and their families, and we have ambassadors there each month to welcome people and to walk and talk around the beautiful 5k parkrun route in the country park.

"We launched in February 2024, so today was our 12th get-together.

"We were having coffee and cake in the restaurant at the Sandringham Visitor Centre this morning after having walked the 5k at Sandringham parkrun and you’ll never guess what!

"We were joined by His Majesty The King who came to offer his congratulations! What an incredible morning! His Majesty took the time to talk to us all and was so interested in everyone’s story.

"The Estate staff at the visitor centre had made delicious cakes for us and all in all we had the most memorable and special morning."
