Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has rubbished reports linking him with the vacant manager role at Oxford United.

The 45-year-old has taken to social media to say he's not spoken to anyone at the Championship club.

He said: "I'm not sure where these rumours have come from, I'm certainly not on the lookout for a job.

"I've spoken about how much I love my role at Chelsea in the academy, working with the players in progressing them from the youth team, to reserves, to the first team and the involvement I have in that.

"I've certainly not approached Oxford, not spoken to anybody at all, so I just want to completely rule myself out of it.

"I wish Oxford and whoever goes in as manager all the very best, but it certainly won't be me. Up the Chels."

Oxford United sacked boss Gary Rowett two days before Christmas after a year in the role.

The U’s interim manager Craig Short took charge of the Boxing Day fixture against in their 2-1 win at home against Southampton.

Oxford sit 21st in the league, just above the relegation zone on goal difference with Portsmouth on the same number of points.

Oxford United are at The Kassam again tomorrow against Swansea for the 19.45 kick-off in the Championship.
