The Coral announce 13th album '388' and premiere lead single 'Let The Music Play'
The album quietly landed in indie record shops two weeks ago
Wirral’s prodigal sons The Coral have officially announced their 13th studio album ‘388’, two weeks after it secretly hit the shelves at independent record stores.
Very limited vinyl copies of ‘388’ landed in indie shops without any announcement or promotion earlier this month, with many surprised fans accidentally stumbling across the album.
A fortnight on, ‘388’ has officially been released via Run on Records today (21st May) and the 11-track album is available to purchase from The Coral’s official website on standard and coloured vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
Musically, the album is the sound of The Coral going back to basics, with a description reading: ‘‘388’ is deeply personal, celebratory and typically erudite body of work, recorded purely for the love of making music again. This one isn’t about chart positions, signed multi-formats and instore appearances, it’s about them.’
The Coral have also premiered the lead single ‘Let the Music Play’ and its accompanying video, which you can watch here:
Singer and songwriter, James Skelly, says of the song: “The recording is an ode to the sound of cassette tapes by The Wailers and Lee Scratch Perry that we used to buy in second hand shops, Poundland and car boot sales.
“The song itself is us trying to make sense of the world but arriving at the fact that only music will ever make sense.”
The Coral hit the road throughout the summer playing a series of festivals and outdoor concerts, including Kendal Calling and the inaugural State Fayre Festival.
