A woman has died after falling into the sea while she was walking her dog during stormy weather on the Isle of Wight.

Emergency services were called to reports of someone going into the water at Sandown at around 11am on Monday morning (26 October).

The woman, in her 50s, was pulled from the water, but despite the best effort of paramedics, died at the scene.

Her family have been told and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said a file was being prepared for the coroner.

The tragedy came in the aftermath of Storm Boelo, which brought strong winds and heavy rain to the island.

Isle of Wight Council posted a warning on social media on Monday, urging people to stay away from sea walls.
