An artwork resembling the style of Banksy has been discovered in King's Lynn.

The mural appeared on the back of The Globe pub in Ferry Street, near the 15th Century Guildhall where historical records suggest William Shakespeare performed. The design shows Shakespeare spray-painting a wall and was noticed by council employees earlier today.

It coincides with concerns raised over funding for renovation works at the Guildhall, which has documented links to Shakespeare’s acting career. Council members have speculated that the artwork may be referencing that.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons confirmed the mural is located on their property on doors at the back of the pub.

Police or art experts have not yet confirmed the piece as an official Banksy. However, in the summer of 2021, several murals confirmed by the artist also appeared across Norfolk and Suffolk.

West Norfolk Borough Council has stated that it would offer support to the property owner to protect the artwork while its origins remain uncertain.
