Second man charged following blaze at former synagogue

Minor damage was caused to the building in east London.

A second man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at a former synagogue in Tower Hamlets.

31 year old Dominique Charles-Turner is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 14th May.

Police were alerted to a fire at the former synagogue on Nelson Street in Tower Hamlets, on 5th May.

Counter Terrorism Policing London have been leading the investigation into the fire at the building, which is currently undergoing sale to a local Somali Muslim organisation.

Officers working at pace

Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said: "The investigation team are working at pace to arrest all those suspected of being involved in the arson attack on the former synagogue."

Commander Flanagan also highlighted the current threat level, urging public vigilance and reporting suspicious behavior as key to community safety.

She added that counter-terrorism officers are collaborating with the Metropolitan Police to offer protective security advice to various organisations, community venues, and businesses.

Other arrests

In addition to Charles-Turner, two other individuals were arrested on 10th May following the arson attack.

Moses Edwards, 45, from Wanstead, was charged with arson with intent to endanger life and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 12th May.

Edwards was remanded in custody and set to appear at the Old Bailey on 5th June.

A 52-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail, pending a date in August.
