The Deputy Prime Minister promised infrastructure improvements and renters' rights in a visit to Bristol on Tuesday (22nd April).
Angela Rayner met with staff at YTL Developments at the Brabazon neighbourhood in Patchway, where 6,500 homes are currently under construction.
As part of proposals for the giant new neighbourhood, are plans for the North Filton railway station and a new music arena.
The vast estate would also have new schools, offices, cafes, restaurants, laboratories and a research campus.
"If we're building housing we've got to build the infrastructure alongside it," Angela Rayner said.
"This development will have a new train station and it's reassuring for people across Bristol that the difference with Labour is we're building homes for local people with the infrastructure that is needed and required as well."
The work in South Gloucestershire is part of the government's target to build 1.5 million new homes across the country.
"But it's not just about building affordable homes, I'm also bringing in the Renters' Rights Bill.
"The previous government promised to protect renters and they haven't done that.
"We're already bringing in legislation around that so that we can end Section 21 no-fault evictions, so renters can challenge when there is unfair rent hikes, and we will stop this bidding process where people can be out-bid on rent.
"There is a lot of changes we're putting in place so we can support renters."
