The Prime Minister has announced details of the government's Warm Homes Plan, which is set to create thousands of jobs, and lower energy bills.

The £15 billion plan will aim to support 15,000 jobs in the East of England, with homes across the country set to benefit from upgrades including heat pumps, solar panels, and proper insulation.

The government said the plan will also help keep energy supplies safe and reliable, and avoid bills soaring like they did in 2022, due to the war in Ukraine.

On a visit to Hertfordshire today (22 January), Sir Kier Starmer explained the steps being taken to help households with the cost of living.

He said: “I grew up in a family that couldn't always make ends meet, so I am acutely aware of the difficulties people across Britain are facing.

“That's why we've taken immediate steps to help families through taking £150 off household energy bills.

“And it's why we are going further – with a £15 billion package that will help the people of Hertfordshire drive down people’s bills in the long run.”

Measures in the Warm Homes Plan include:

· Free upgrades for low income families

· Zero/low interest loans for homeowners for solar, heat pumps, and batteries

· £7,500 heat pump grants for everyone

· New protections for renters so landlords must fix cold, damp homes

· Solar and clean heating in all new builds
