Tribute unveiled to commemorate victims of Nuneaton train disaster
Six people were killed and 38 were injured when a train derailed in 1975
A flower tribute commemorating the victims of a train crash near Nuneaton fifty years ago has been unveiled.
On June 6th, 1975 a sleeper train running from London Euston to Glasgow was travelling in the early hours of the morning when it derailed just outside Trent Valley train station.
In total, six people lost their lives in the disaster, while another 38 were left injured following the crash.
After the crash, an inquiry into what caused the train to detail was launched, and revealed the crash was put down to diver error - partially due to the failure of gas lit lamps that illuminated the lineside signage warning of a speed restriction that was in place.
It was later revealed that the train had crashed after entering a temporary speed restriction at four times the speed limit.
Now, fifty years on from the train coming off the tracks, mourners have gathered to pay their respects and remember those who were impacted by the incident.
On top of this, a touching flower tribute has been unveiled to honour the victims of the crash, including a plaque, that had been erected back in 2015 - forty years on.
