Dogs, cats, livestock, and various birds have been rescued from a sanctuary in Halesowen after concerns were raised over their neglect.

West Midlands Police officers and the RSPCA conducted a joint operation last month to recover the animals, which included livestock, dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, ducks, geese, and birds of prey like Barn and Snowy Owls.

Animals were found in conditions described as 'extreme'.

Police also discovered nine non-viable firearms and a ninja star during the search, which were seized for safety.

Sergeant Ben Dolan, the force’s wildlife, rural and heritage crime lead, said: “This was a distressing and complex incident.

“I want to thank all the officers and the RSPCA who stepped in to protect the public and the wildlife and move these animals so they could receive proper care and attention.

“A detailed investigation is now underway and all the animals we recovered are alive and safe and are now in the care of the RSPCA. I also want to thank the person who made the report."

People are being encouraged to report any concerns about animal welfare.
