This year's English National Surfing Championships will not be going ahead as planned this weekend (May 3rd - May 5th) at Fistral Beach because of poor weather forecasts for the sport.

Surfing England say 'making this call is never easy', but the swell simply isn’t set to be sufficient to run the planned shortboard divisions.

They add they have to prioritise the quality of the event and the experience for surfers, saying they're 'absolutely devastated'.

What happens next?

Surfing England say all athletes who were confirmed to compete will receive a refund for the entry fee (not including LiveHeats registration fee).

For those athletes aiming for a place to compete for Team England at Euros/Worlds from this event, the selection policy will be updated as required within 48 hours.

A new date will also be locked-in very soon.

In a statement, bosses said: "Thank you for your understanding and continued support – we’re as disappointed as you are, but we’re committed to bringing this event back with great waves and even better energy when the conditions line up.

"Stay tuned – we’ll see you in the surf soon!"
