A cat missing for nearly six weeks has been found more than 150 miles from her home in St Helens, near Liverpool, after a volunteer spotted her going through bins at a motorway service station on the A1.

The cat, called Quinn, was found in the yard of the hotel at Peterborough Services, according to a Facebook post from Peterborough's Lost Pets.

The group said its volunteer Cat Attwell was at work when she saw the cat and caught her.

She put Quinn in a carrier and messaged the group to ask for her to be scanned, as there were no homes nearby and many busy roads.

A member of the group collected the cat and scanned her. It said her microchip details were up to date.

Quinn was around three hours from home. The group said it assumes she jumped into a van, possibly in the engine bay.

It said it was in contact with her owners and making plans to get her home as soon as possible.

The group said Quinn was fine apart from some missing fur and being a little thin, and was settling in while she waited for her family.

The post's headline says Quinn is now home, and an update video has been shared in the comments.

The group said: 'Well done to Cat for getting her safe and another story to show the importance of chipping your pets.'
