Blackpool Tourism has issued a statement after people were stuck at the top of Blackpool Tower and inside the lift.

It's after an 'unexpected fault' to do with the lift.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Fearnley from Sheffield was among those stuck for around four hours. She said: "Coming back down, I noticed that there was quite a long queue for the lifts to go back down.

"I just waited and waited and waited and eventually, somebody came round and said that there was a problem with the lift.

"The doors, I think, wouldn't open, they were stuck down, and they were waiting for the engineers to come, but unfortunately the engineers had been called to a job in Carlisle. So, they then had to turn around and come back and we didn't know how long that was going to take."

Rebecca said nobody grumbled at the top, one family started singing Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver and others joined in.

She also said the staff looked after everyone well, including offering free food and drinks.

Rob Smith, General Manager of The Blackpool Tower, said: “On Sunday afternoon, the lift transporting guests to the top of Blackpool Tower developed an unexpected fault.

"As a result, a number of visitors were held in the lift and at Tower Top until engineers arrived on site and safely returned them to ground level.

“At all times, our guests were safe. However, we fully recognise that this was not an ideal experience and we sincerely apologised for the inconvenience and discomfort caused to all guests.

“All affected guests were offered food, refreshments and were spoken to individually by a member of our senior management team, who offered to resolve any issues the incident had caused them.

“We are grateful for their patience and understanding while the situation was resolved.”
